IF 6 WAS 9

A split screen film about teenage girls ans sex

by Eija-Liisa AHTILA

1995 / 35 mm / n&b / sonore / 11 min

IF 6 WAS 9 deals with the sexual world of young females. The film presents a point of view to the sexual fantasies, habits, action and wishes of teenage girls. It shows an on going metamorphis of a child to this “sexual creature” with the softest organs for taking and grasping. The girls are not like their mothers - neither are they like the boys around. They move from inside and they want to have the world and touch it with their feet, cheeks, tits and arse.
The piece is based on research and real things happened, but the story itself and the dialogues are fictional, combination of different elements. Nevertheless the aim is to obtain a feel of documentarian straight forwardness and ease.
The film consists of three separate moving images which form a split screen. The story is told with the movement along the screen: images contrast and react to each other. They also create time to time a feel of simultaneity and mutual space as well as a dialogue between the people on the screen. The split is used as a formal means to mirror the distancing and approaching aims of the young females.
